Board Width : Fat vs. Thin

There are many different sizes of boards today ranging from the thin 7.5 inch decks to the Fat 8.5 inch decks. Some people would say it doesnt matter, and then others will say that fat or thin decks are better.

Thin Boards

Many people find thin boards for a number of reasons. Thin boards are mainly used for tech street skating, as it allows them to flip the board alot faster as it is thiner and lighter. Some people also feel that since thiner decks are lighter, it is going to allow them to ollie higher; a lighter deck would help while learning but it doesnt really make much of a difference. Also, some people feel that bigger boards juts dont feel very good to stand on, as it can feel quite bulky.

Fat Boards

Alot of people like fatter boards for a number of reasons. When they do any sort of flatland trick, or an ollie, they like the fact they have alot of space to land on. Vert skaters tend to use wider boards as it gives them alot more space to move about on, especially for landings. Another advantage of fatter boards is that it allows people with bigger feet, or just people who dont like having their toes hanging off the side of the board, to get something to suit them.

In reality, it doesnt matter what size of board you have, but the fact you are able to use it the way you want.
